Dear Sirs:
Our youngest son, Evan, was born with spina bifida in August of 1987. We knew he would be born with this crippling birth defect, but the diagnosis of a dangerous kidney disease was an added shock. Against the odds, Evan grew into adulthood, blessing the lives of many along the way.
“The Challenge and Champion” is his story, as told by me, his father. This is more than a biography of Evan’s life. It is a saga of sore trials and miracles, sadness and joy, tears and laughter, disappointments and triumphs. But above all, it is a story of love for our son and our faith in God.
I originally wrote this memoir to be a source of inspiration to my children and grandchildren. However, I came to realize that this work contains many testimonies, lessons and insights that should be shared with all active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and with the community at large.
This is not a day to day, journal like book. Some chapters deal with a topic in his life, such as his service in the Priesthood, which covers several years. Other chapters cover specific events that occurred in a day or in a few weeks. Many of the chapters, especially at the beginning, are very heartbreaking. But other chapters celebrate the good things in Evan’s life. The reader should be smiling at the end of the book.
After careful consideration, I have chosen to submit the entire ninety-eight page manuscript. I am confident that you will not want to put the book down once you have started to read it.
Thank you for your consideration. Enclosed you will find a self-addressed, stamped envelope for your reply. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,
Michael A. Price
